Poliomyelitis is a highly infectious viral disease that most commonly affects children under the age of 5, but can impact people of any age. Most know it as poliovirus or simply, Polio. The virus is spread person to person, typically through contaminated water. It can attack the nervous system, and in some instances, lead to paralysis. Although there is no cure, there is a safe and effective vaccine – one which Rotary and our partners used to immunize over 400 million children every year. Learn more.
Every time a child is immunized, their pinkies are colored purple to show that they are safe from this disease.
Members of the State College/Downtown Rotary Club are taking action during October to raise awareness, to raise funds, and to support an end to Polio. We hope you will join us by enjoying a pint of beer or ice cream so that every child can get their vaccination and a purple pinky!
In a few weeks, Boal City Brewing will brew (name TBA) to help support ending polio. Visit Boal City Brewing between October 15 and 25 to enjoy a glass of (name TBA) and a percentage of each sale will to to End Polio Now.
Visit Meyer Dairy Farms on October 21 to purchase to-go Pints of Ice Cream or to-go Blended Pints and $1 of every pint sold will go to End Polio Now.

Each summer, the State College Food Bank hosts it's No Cost Produce Market. from mid-June through September.
The State College Downtown Rotary Club supports this initiative to provide fresh produce to those in need in Centre County by volunteering to unload and then prep/portion the produce, set up the market inside a vacant store in the Nittany Mall, distribute the food during these twice monthly events, and clean up afterwards.
Our club is proud to be the Charter Organization for Scouts BSA State College Troop 31 Boys and Troop 31 Girls. We also have chartered the Scouts BSA State College Pack 31 Cub Scouts. Since the early years of Rotary International, Rotary clubs have chartered Scout Troops. The Scout Law and the 4-Way Test share many of the same values and the many current Rotarians were former scouts. For more information on the Troops, please visit their website. We encourage all youth in our area to consider joining Scouts BSA.
Club Members are encouraged to participate either as part of our group or at their individual workplaces in the United Way Day of Caring each year.
